NAMA Forms a Biotechnology Committee
And Names New Committee Chairmen

WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 9, 2011 – NAMA Chairman Paul Maass announced the formation of a Biotechnology Committee and named the committee chairmen for the 2011-2013 term. “The establishment of the new Biotechnology Committee demonstrates NAMA’s continued support for the responsible expansion of biotechnology products. The committee chairmen were selected based on their experience and expertise in the subject matter of the committee. With these appointments, NAMA is well prepared to provide education, information, and advocacy to members, policy makers, customers, and suppliers,” stated Maass.

The Biotechnology Committee is chaired by John Gillcrist, Bartlett Milling Company and is tasked with looking at the broad policy implications of biotechnology regulation and advising NAMA on actions and positions to be taken.

Other structural changes include renaming the Product Promotion Committee to the Nutrition/Product Promotion Committee and the Kansas State Committee to the Milling Science and Operations Committee. In addition to working with stakeholder groups to support and promote the consumption of dry milled grain products, the Nutrition/Product Promotion Committee will also work internally on regulatory and legislative proposals on nutrition. Chairing the committee is John Miller, Miller Milling Company.

Breck Barton, Cereal Food Processors, Inc. chairs the Milling Science and Operations Committee. The committee will expand its education focus to include the Kansas State University Department of Grain Science and Industry and the IAOM (International Association of Operative Millers).

The structure and purpose of the other NAMA committees remain the same. The new chairmen are:

Administrative Committees

Policy Committees

Liaison Committees

Ad Hoc Committees

NAMA is the trade association representing 43 companies that operate 170 wheat, oat and corn mills in 38 states and Canada. Their collective production capacity exceeds 160 million pounds of product each day, more than 95 percent of the total industry production.
