Beverages
Oat based beverages
are not very common in North America, but South
American and Asian consumers drink many such
beverages. The drinks are often sold as a powder,
made up of approximately equal parts of oat flour and
sugar, with some flavoring and added vitamins. The
powder is mixed with fruit juices or milk.
Flavor, shelf-life characteristics, and granulation
are important. Smaller particles are more easily
dissolved by the liquid, and contribute to a smoother
texture to the drink.
One of the milkshake
type diet drink mixes in North America now contains
oat flour, and opportunity exists to expand this
market.
