Biotech Labeling
NAMA supports biotechnology as well as recognizing the right of choice among those in the food chain. NAMA is aggressively opposing legislation that would require labeling of products derived from genetically enhanced crops and formed an ad hoc committee.
U.S. producers have rapidly adopted biotechnology, demonstrating the value these products hold for farmers. The rapid adoption has been assisted by the regulatory review genetically enhanced products receive in the U.S. by USDA, FDA and EPA. FDA has determined that foods derived from biotechnology currently must be labeled only if they differ significantly from their conventional counterparts. Currently there is no genetically enhanced wheat grown in the U.S.
