International Trade

Free Trade

NAMA is a proponent of free trade. We are a participant in the World Trade Organization (WTO) with the goal of eliminating the use of export subsidies, non-tariff barriers, and tariffs on corn, wheat, and products thereof. The WTO oversees the rules of trade between nations; it is responsible for negotiating and implementing new trade agreements, and is in charge of monitoring member countries' adherence to all the WTO agreements, signed by the bulk of the world's trading nations and ratified in their parliaments.

We support President Obama's pledge to double U.S. exports within five years as a way to create millions of new export-related jobs in this country.

Trade Agreements

NAMA is in favor of pending free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea would allow U.S. exports to be on par with other countries and compete effectively in the export market. A rule-based trading system, provides transparency and certainty to world agricultural markets.

Cuba

NAMA supports easing restrictions on U.S. agricultural sales to Cuba and allowing U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba. The U.S. must increase agriculture exports to Cuba, which is increasingly looking to other countries, like Vietnam, for their commodities imports.
