Freedom to Farm
NAMA is participating in the
Coalition for a Competitive Food and Agricultural
System (CCFAS). The coalition develops materials used
to educate members of Congress and their staff on the
benefits of the 1996 FAIR Act (Freedom to Farm).
NAMA supports the coalition's market-based policies for planting flexibility, the end of set-asides and opposing increases in the Conservation Reserve Program.
The Coalition's goal in 2000 is to work with farm groups for policies that create a more prosperous future for U.S. agriculture to retain the FAIR Act.
How We Got Here: Remembering why the 105th Congress enacted the 1996 Farm Bill.
The Record: The 1996 Farm Bill allowed the government to provide additional assistance without jeopardizing farmers' planting flexibility, without returning to supply controls, and without resorting to costly government stock-holding.
Fundamentals: When Congress debates the 2002 Farm Bill, there are some fundamental policies in the 1996 Farm Bill that should not be changed.
