NAMA 2012 Division Meetings
Meeting Objectives
Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting is held every September/October. Milling and associate members and invited guests attend the meeting. The Executive Committee and Board of Directors meet to review the work completed the previous year and to develop a plan of work for the following year. The budget for the year is approved and officers are elected. The President presents the association's annual report. Speakers present information on current topics of interest to the industry during a General Session. Special events provide networking opportunities for members. Approximately 150 millers, associate members and their spouses attend the meeting.
Division Meetings
Each Division, Corn, Oat and Soft Wheat, meets to discuss issues of particular importance to that division. These "Business Meetings" are open to milling members only. In addition to the Business Meetings, there are also General Sessions and an Oat Milling Conference where crop outlooks and forecasts are presented and speakers make presentations on topics that are of common interest to all millers. The General Sessions and Oat Milling Conference are open to milling and associate members and non-members, including suppliers and customers. Including spouses, attendance is typically around 220. Special events provide networking opportunities for everyone attending the meetings.
Leadership Meeting
Every spring, NAMA's Chairman and Vice Chairman invite members of the Board to Washington, DC to advocate on behalf of the milling industry. Groups of three to five members from NAMA's Executive Committee and Board meet with administration officials, Congressional staff, and Washington contacts on two to three issues. Members are assigned to groups that match their interests in subject matter. NAMA staff coordinates the appointments, prepares leave-behind kits, talking points and accompanies each group to their meetings. The Executive Committee meets with staff to discuss current issues before the association and to provide direction where needed. Members are encouraged to visit their individual Congressional representatives before or after the planned sessions. NAMA can assist members in making those appointments. Roughly 25 Board members attend the Leadership Meeting every year.
Corn Dry Milling Conference
The first annual Corn Dry Milling Conference was in 1959. The scientific conference is co-sponsored by NAMA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research (NCAUR). It is held every spring in Peoria, IL at NCAUR. The objective of the conference is to share information about the corn dry milling industry, including food safety, corn product consumption and the latest advances in milling, product testing technologies and the science of corn production technology. Corn millers, corn seed producers, people involved in food corn product manufacturing or sales, and agricultural engineers dealing in the production, handling, storage and processing of corn products for food are encouraged to attend. The conference give attendees the opportunity to interact with industry colleagues involved in corn milling and product manufacturing. Attendance is usually around 50 people from the corn chain.
NAMA meetings do not include trade shows, exhibits, or tabletop displays.
