Global agreement approves use of methyl bromide through 2008
At a meeting in New Delhi, India the parties to the United Nations Environmental Program met to discuss the 2008 methyl bromide exemption requests of NAMA and other user groups from the US and elsewhere. While some foreign interests and activist groups were pushing hard for dramatic reductions, the quantities of the fumigant approved for NAMA and others were essentially the same as was requested by the US government. The US had requested an amount of the fumigant equal to 23 percent of what was used in the 1991 baseline year. 21 percent was approved.

Leading up to the negotiations, Jim Bair, as NAMA’s representative on the Crop Protection Coalition, helped conduct briefings for the White House, State Department and the Senate and House Agriculture Committees.

NAMA submitted its 2009 request in July of this year.

In May 2006, 23 undergraduate students graduated leaving enrollment at a total of 155  (78 milling, 33 baking, and 44 feed). Graduate students dropped from 81 students in 1992 to 20 in 2004. That number has grown to 34 in 2006. The number of students and faculty are once again increasing, but the job is not yet complete.
