NAMA NEWS

MILLERS GATHER FOR 2014 DIVISION MEETINGS

This past weekend, millers, associate members, and industry friends gathered for the 2014 NAMA Division Meetings in Marco Island, Florida at the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort & Spa.  Many business meetings and general sessions took place throughout the 4-day event.  Speaker presentations from the oat conference, general session, and soft wheat crop forecast can be found on the NAMA website at http://www.namamillers.org/meetings/2014-division-meeting-presentations/.  Highlights and minutes from the business and committee meetings will be distributed to members and posted in the member section of the NAMA website in the days to come.

NAMA CORN DIVISION RE-ELECTS WADE ELLIS AS CHAIRMAN

During the Corn Division Business Meeting on March 9 in Marco Island, FL, corn milling members re-elected Wade Ellis of Bunge Milling to a new term as the Corn Division Chairman.  Ellis was first elected in March 2013 to finish out the remaining term of George Allard, also Bunge Milling, when Allard resigned his post.  Ellis’ term will run through March 2016.

Ellis was named vice president and general manager of Bunge North American’s milling business in 2013 and is responsible for all phases of corn, rice, and wheat milling.  Ellis joined Bunge in 2003 and has held many positions within the company, his most recent being general manager of Bunge’s rice milling facility in Woodland, California.  Ellis graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in agribusiness management.

NAMA PANEL FORECASTS DROP IN U.S. SOFT RED WINTER WHEAT

During the Soft Wheat Crop Forecast that took place at the 2014 NAMA Division Meetings in Marco Island, Florida, soft wheat millers announced a 23% decrease in 2014 soft red winter wheat production and a 9% increase in soft white winter wheat from 2013.  Grover Van Hoose, a grain buyer with the Mennel Milling Company, chairs the panel.  The panel’s full report is available online at http://www.namamillers.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/softwheat141.pdf.

BRITT SEES SIGNS PEPPERIDGE WILL KEEP BREAD GAINS

Irene Chang Britt, president of Pepperidge Farm Inc. offered several comments this week about the bread business as part of a panel discussion of executives at the RBC Retail Conference.  Britt said the company had managed to capture a surprisingly large share of the bread business that opened with the November 2012 bankruptcy of Hostess Brands, Inc. and expressed confidence that Pepperidge maintain control of those share gains.

USDA ERS RELEASES LATEST MONTHLY REPORT FOR WHEAT
