Christine Cochran is Executive Director of the Grain Foods Foundation, a joint venture of members of the milling, baking and allied industries, which is dedicated to advancing the public’s understanding of the beneficial role grain-based foods play in the human diet. Directed by a board of trustees, funding for the Foundation is provided through voluntary donations from private grain-based food companies and is supplemented by industry associations.
In her role as Executive Director, Cochran drives the Grain Foods Foundation’s activities and strategic partnerships. The Foundation’s outreach extends to policymakers, health professionals as well as consumers and Ms. Cochran collaborates across the grains industry to ensure there is a unified voice representing the value of grain-based foods.
Ms. Cochran previously served as the President of the Commodity Markets Council, where she managed the association and communicated the industry’s views to the US Congress and Administration. She was responsible for developing the Council’s international relationships, which extend to Brazil, Europe, and India. CMC advocates for open, competitive markets in the commodity futures industry.
Ms. Cochran also serves as coordinator for the Alliance for Agricultural Growth and Competitiveness and as the ag section co-chair for Women In International Trade. She taught a course at the Georgetown Law School Corporate Counsel Institute. Additionally, she sits on the Board for the Future of Financial Markets, an annual event in India that brings together financial industry leaders to discuss emerging market issues.
She received her juris doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center and is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. She also studied economics at the London School of Economics and the Czech Agricultural University. She studied tropical agriculture in Costa Rica at E.A.R.T.H.
