Every spring members of the Board come to Washington, DC to advocate on behalf of the milling industry. It is an opportunity for NAMA members to bring a real-world perspective to milling industry issues, make NAMA a familiar name and sought after source of information and to visit with other colleagues on the NAMA Board in a small, informal setting.
Board members meet with appointed and elected government leaders in groups of 3-5. Each group is led by a staff member who works with the group in advance of the meetings and schedules appointments with administration officials, Senate and House committee staffs, and Washington contacts.
Board members are encouraged to visit their individual Congressional representatives before or after the planned sessions.
12:00 – 1:00 p.m. – Sandwich Buffet (eat as you arrive)
1:00 – 2:00 p.m. — Issue Briefing
2:00 – 4:00 p.m. – Appointments with Administration officials and Hill staff on current NAMA issues
5:00 – 6:30 p.m. – Reception with Washington colleagues in the ag community
7:00 p.m. – NAMA member dinner
7:15 – 8:15 a.m. – Leadership Meeting Wrap-up
8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Executive Committee Meeting for members of the Executive Committee. Board members are encouraged to use this time to visit their individual Congressional offices.
Hotel accommodations are being held at the Holiday Inn Capitol for the North American Millers’ Association group for check-in beginning Tuesday, April 8, 2014, check-out Thursday, April 10, 2014. The Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is the closest airport to Washington, DC. From DCA you can take a taxi to the hotel or you can get on the metro and take it to the L’Enfant Plaza metro stop on the yellow/green and organge/blue lines.
The Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is a 35-50 minute taxi ride, depending on traffic.
The Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is a 45 minute to an hour drive or you can hop on the MARC commuter train to Union Station and take the metro from there. The train ride is 40 minutes to an hour. Trains depart every half hour.
Once you have arrived at the hotel, a car is not needed. The group will travel to the meetings via taxi or metro.
