Director, Prairie Oat Grower Association
|Richard recently retired from a 5000 acre grain farm and a 2150 acre/450 cow-calf ranch in Indian Head, Saskatchewan. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Alberta and he has an MBA from Columbia University where he was an editor of the Columbia Journal of International Business.
Richard began his career at the Pioneer Grain Company Ltd in Calgary. He spent 16 years in the financial derivatives markets, first at the BT Bank of Toronto and then Bankers Trust Company in New York where he was the VP Capital Markets, VP Credit Derivatives, and Managing Director of Latin American Derivative Products.
|In 1996 he went to work for Morgan Stanley where he was co-head of the Latin America local currency venture. Next was Nomura Securities International where he managed an investment portfolio of emerging markets. His last posting was with ABN Amro as Global Head of Emerging Markets Trading.
In his retirement he intends on spending increasing amounts of time with his wife on aid and mission efforts abroad.
For fun Richard also has been involved in public policy issues: read “A Bushel Half Full: Reforming the Canadian Wheat Board,” a C.D Howe Institute briefing co-authored by Richard Pedde and Sylvain Charlebois.
