Nutrition/Product Committee Conference Call Minutes – February 8, 2011

1.	Call to Order and Introductions – Committee Chairman John Miller called the conference to order at 3:00 PM. Self introductions were made.
2.	Committee Mission/charter – Mary Waters This committee was previously called the Promotion committee and limited to NAMA members who serve on the Grain Foods Foundation board. It is now the Nutrition/Promotion Committee and is open to any member interested in legislative and regulatory developments on these issues. It will offer a forum to discuss nutrition issues and will be a contact list to disseminate information. The work of the Ad Hoc Committee on Whole Grains will be included in this Committee. It will work with other stakeholder groups to support and promote efforts to increase the utilization and consumption of dry milled grain-based products. It is intended to complement and not compete with or duplicate the work of the Grain Foods Foundation and the grain chain (NAWG, NAMA and ABA).
3.	Upcoming issues
	Dietary Guidelines – March is National Nutrition month – Sherri Lehman There will be additional announcements on the Dietary Guidelines and the enriched refined” grains referenced in the January 31 announcement.
	Nutritional Standards for school lunch – Sherri Lehman Comments are due April 13. This announcement included a term “grain rich” which is to be further clarified by USDA. The Committee will receive updates on these issues, copies of joint submissions from GFF, NAWG and ABA and discuss new issues of interest as they arise.
4.	Proactive opportunities
	Vitamin D Fortification – Mary Waters NAMA staff is researching what would be involved with the organization submitting a petition for deregulation. This is an activity that could be sponsored by this committee.
